Delhi has a majestic beauty and an old world charm which even the jet age cannot pass by. New Delhi is the capital of India and its third largest city. It is actually a combination of “old” Delhi. The imperial city created as the nation’s capital by the British. The city has a rich heritage with numerous historical monuments and landmarks. The old section of the city is full of ancient mosques, forts and monuments. Through history there have been eight different cities around modern Delhi. These were the capital of different kingdoms. Modern Delhi was officially inaugurated in 1931. The city’s architecture clearly reflects the different phases in its history. There are a number of guided tours organized by the Delhi tourism department. Of course, adventurous visitors can explore the city by own.
